“The Day of Small Things”

“The Day of Small Things”

The Apostle Paul made a small statement that revealed a tremendously huge principle. In II Corinthians 5:7 Paul said, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” As you probably know, many times as we walk or live our daily lifestyles, we find ourselves faced with situations that overwhelm us and seem impossible to overcome or solve.  These situations that we’re faced with or that we see before us can certainly overwhelm us, frustrate us, and place tremendous fear in us. The Lord surely knew that we would need an explanation to understand the principle that He revealed to Paul in II Corinthians 5:7. I believe the explanation can be clearly understood in I Samuel 17:1-51 (I know that seems like a lot to read, but it’s worth it, please read). Notice in verses three through eleven the army of Israel “looked on” or were focused on the size of Goliath and what they saw made them “dismayed and greatly afraid”. Anybody ever been there? Verse sixteen says Goliath came out to threaten Israel for forty days. The number forty stands for “trials and testing”. Maybe some of our situations are tests to see how we respond to them, by faith or fear! In verses twenty-three and twenty-four the army of Israel “feared” what they saw. Then in verses forty through forty-five Goliath looks at the size of David and mocks him. Goliath looked at the size of David, but he didn’t look at the size of the Rock in David’s sling! Notice, the size of The Rock! Notice verses forty-seven through fifty, David had no sword or shield only The Rock and that’s all he needed to put an end to that overwhelming, fearful and impossible situation! One young boy walking by faith did that! Zechariah 4:10 says, “For who has despised the day of small things?” So don’t look at how small you are, but see by faith how big God is! Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against us.”. Matthew 19:26, “With men (in the natural) this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” That includes every impossible situation in our lives! What can one man or one person do? Now, look at what one person did! Goliath and even the army of Israel “walked by sight”, but David “walked by faith”. He knew that God was with him and so do you! Finally, notice I Samuel 17:46-47, David said, “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand… and “then all this assembly (the Philistine army and the army of Israel) shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will deliver you into our hands”. Think about it! This is the day that the Lord will use small things by faith to do great things! So, do not despise this day but rejoice, walk by faith and embrace “The Day of Small Things”! Trust Him and be Blessed!

Forever Following Jesus,
